Adapters and converters for gadgets

It is not that one leaves behind one’s personal gadgets and gizmos when travelling to another country or nation. There is however the aspect that the gadget or gizmo being manufactured in a particular region has the charging facilities adapted to that particular region, unlike a roaming sim. Charging is essential as this is the source of power for the gadget to work upon. So be it the electric shaver that is necessary daily or be it the portable iron that one needs to carry along for ironing out a shirt, before leaving ones room to attend a meeting, there is the need for a compatible power source to the gadget that one is carrying.

The sad or unfortunate part is that in most cases one comes across the situation wherein the electric power source is a 220v whereas the gadget requires 110v or vice-versa. It is in these conditions that one finds the importance of a converter or there are also adapters which do this job.

Converters of this sort, that is which converts voltage, come as a step up or step down converter. The name itself explains what sort of output one can expect from each of this type of converter. The wattage of the gadget would help one determine what kind of converter one would require - a smaller wattage convertor or a larger wattage one. It is also advisable to buy a surge suppressor along with to cater for bad supply sources.

Along with this converter there is the need of an adapter also. It is suggested that given the variation in the plugs and sockets used in various countries one must carry different adapters to be able to plug in at the place of requirement. It is to be recollected that adapters help to match the socket of the device to that of the power source output. The adapter does not do anything to transform the voltage rating.
